This oil has been around for
over 40 years and I've only found out about it back in 2001. I was a diehard Mobil 1 synthetic user for nearly 8 years until I discovered the benefits of Amsoil. One day I attended a car club in St. Louis and and listened in on a conversation between a couple of older car enthusiasts talking about the best oil to use. I was intrigued by their talk of Amsoil.
At the time, my LS1 engine was having a bad oil consumption problem that a lot of 2001 LS1 engines had during that year. From what I heard and read, if the problem was bad enough, I would end up bringing the car back to the dealer and have them rebuild the engine under warranty. That was the VERY LAST thing I wanted to do. My engine ran perfect other than the oil consumption of about a quart of oil every 1,500 miles of expensive Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic. I was literally losing sleep over this.
So after doing some research, it was determined that the Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 was the best stuff that Amsoil seemed to produce. I received the Amsoil catalog in the mail, looked it over, found the product code for the 0w30 and ordered 6 quarts and an Amsoil SDF oil filter. The LS1 engine uses Amsoil filter SDF-32.
I drove 3,000 miles on this oil while checking the oil stick periodically. To my astonishment, the oil consumption went away. I never thought this could be possible using a quality synthetic oil. I was always told that synthetic oil was thin and that it would go around pistons, etc. Was that the fattest lie I ever found out.

After break-in on the differential, I highly recommend Amsoil's 75W90 gear lube. You don't need any additives. It keeps gears quiet without the GM additive. This is some of the best stuff you can find on the market for rear end differentials.

I just can't believe that this oil has been around all of these years and nobody told me about it sooner. I had no idea that tons of NASCAR people used this stuff in their cars and world records were being won as well. It's mindblowing that more high performance automotive shops have never heard of Amsoil and don't stock their shelves with it. From what I heard, there are tons of race car people who swear by this stuff. When it came to protecting my engine and prevent an engine rebuild of my LS1, I would have paid as much as $30 per quart if I had to.

I currently have had a 1990 ZR-1 Vette for 10 years, at first not knowing much about the engine I asked Corvette owners what type of
oil they used and most said Mobil 1. I did some research and found due to the flat valve springs this engine required more Phosphorous and Zinc than most cars. Amsoil 10w/30 Z Rod had more phosphorous and zinc than the other oils. I drive this car less than 1,000 miles a year so can change oil every 2 years. In Canada this oil is expensive at $15.00 a quart and requires 9 quarts, but I feel it's better to be safe than sorry and use the best oil for this engine.

Best oil for a 1990 ZR-1
I have had a 1990 ZR-1 Corvette for over 10 years and due to the LT5 having flat valve lifters it requires a oil that is high in Zinc and Phosphorous Amsoil now has Z/Rod 10w/30 which I have been using as it is the highest content of Zinc & Phosphorus. I highly recommend this oil.
