Mid SAPS 5W40

Can I use your European mid-SAPS 5w40 motor oil for this vehicle? I remember seeing this oil as a recommendation but this oil is no longer listed as recommended.

Re: Mid SAPS 5W40

MB initially recommended the following viscosities: 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40, 5W-40, 5W-50

But later MB revised the recommendation to 0W-30 & 5W-30. Currently MB only recommends 0w30.

Technically mid-SAPS 5w40 can be used for this engine (3L Turbo Diesel - Engine Code 642.980).

But this application guide adheres to the manufacturers latest revised recommendations. Replied by Tech Admin

Gear oil for differential: MB part # 001 989 33 03

I was looking for a better alternative for MB gear oil for the front and rear differentials. MB part # 001 989 33 03 converts to M/B Sheet 235.7, which is a 75W85 GL-5 gear lube.

Amsoil's severe gear line up is the best GL-5 extreme pressure gear lubes in the market. I have opted to use a higher than recommended viscosity of 75w110. Amsoil severe gear 75w90 is close to the recommended 75W85 viscosity... but these suv's are heavy and there are lots of differential issues with trucks running 75W85 as per MB recommendation.

So I installed the 75w110 Amsoil severe gear which is the best gear oil money can buy. Too bad AMSOIL cross reference guide don't publish this product as an alternative. I guess this guide sticks to the books 100%.
